Seems like most persons are always talking about pre-flop method, so I wanted to speak a little bit about how I play right after the flop. Maybe I can help others, or maybe they’ve got advice to improve my play.
I imagine that 2 of the most critical plays following the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. That is because these are the plays you generate whenever you havent hit a hand but you have a good drawing hand. Its easy to play a hand whenever you flop a monster. Except I consider that these 2 are the best ways to bet on a drawing. Each one is played depending on you opponent(s) and your postion. So here’s how I wager on it, so tell me what you think.
Early Placement – Tight Opponents:
A semi-bluff works fairly properly in this position. Arrive out gambling and if a tight gambler did not hit a hand he will most likely lay down, and if he’s unsure you may well acquire a call. Except watch out, if that tight gambler comes back more than the best it may be time to acquire away.
Early Location – Loose Opponents
This is were I like to complete a defensive wager. Choose how many chips you’re willing to chance on your draw and wager. This really is normally a much lower wager than normal. It has been my understanding that the loose player will usually just call a wager instead of re-raise. Even so, if you check to them, theyre far more likely to throw in much more chips than your willing to pay.
Late Location – Tight Competitors
This is the finest time to complete a semi-bluff, especially if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you will probaly pick up the pot now. If a player prior to has wager, you might have to determine if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he will most likely go away since he was trying to steal the pot. In case you consider he does, well then it is time to calculate your odds, and choose if the pot odds are worth the call.
Late Position – Loose Opponents
This one is often a bit complicated, simply because it is tougher to put a loose gambler on a hand. And if your in late place against loose gambler, odds are they have already wager. That is had been I usually make a decision to take a chance and are available back over the top of them and pray they do not call, and if they do, properly then its time to gamble. Odds are though even a loose gambler will go away if you arrive back strong enough.
Don’t forget though that these are moves I only generate soon after the flop comes and I have a decent drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Perhaps four to the flush or the open ended straight, for example.
