Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
