I’ve been wagering poker now for about five years, I have bet cards my entire life beginning with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various forms of Brag and basic random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so beautifully called, card on head game. I used to often win, whatever casino game we were betting and even though I liked to call it skill, it was very difficult to justify thinking about the randomness of the games we were wagering, so I was pleased to accept I was having an extended run of luck.
Then came Poker, or far more importantly Texas hold’em Poker, made famous by a group of Texas card players in the 60’s and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever witnessed. Poker is absolutely the new black, it can be super cool with a lot of of the world’s leading celebrities racing to have their name associated with it. Just a quick flick through the TV channels these days and you are able to not escape from poker, and naturally there is the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all combined into one for each individual player.
So with all of this new discovered recognition, with so many Tv programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves filled up with high quality material written by the top minds on poker, when are people going to learn that this casino game is all about position!?
Perhaps I should not receive so worked up about this, after all the more folks who struggle with the subtle techniques and methods required for succeeding consistently at Texas hold em, the far better it truly is for everyone else, appropriate? I mean, if they cannot be bothered to look at all of the obtainable info about why position is so crucial, why really should we bother? We should just be glad there is another fish at the table!
It is true, we must not reward laziness with guidance and support. However, I liken this to a welcoming casino game of football.
