Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed betting on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to participate in some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he played many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on poker.
The actual improvement in his game began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently play against one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his strategic thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
