Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
